The Participants of the VII International Summer School of Multiculturalism in Ismayilli

 

On 3 August the participants of the VII International Summer School of Multiculturalism titled “Baku Process 10 Years: As a Contribution to the Intercultural Dialogue” and held by the organizational support of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism arrived in Ismayilli.

At Heydar Aliyev Centre the participants of the Summer School met with the Chair of the Board of Trustees of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism, Academician Kamal Abdullayev, Charge d’Affaires of the USA to Azerbaijan William Gill and the Head of the District Executive Power Mirdamad Sadigov.

It should be pointed out the project of the International Winter and Summer Schools of Multiculturalism is the continuation of the BICM project “Teaching of the Course ‘Azerbaijani Multiculturalism” at Foreign and National Universities”. The Winter and Summer Schools organized for the students learning at present Azerbaijani multiculturalism at 19 prestigious universities abroad and 38 leading universities of Azerbaijan in the frames of the educational project are aimed at enabling those young people to witness all that they have theoretically learnt with their own eyes in our country where multicultural and tolerant values have been maintained.

Speaking at the meeting Academician Kamal Abdullayev pointed out that Azerbaijan is a country with an ancient and rich history, with its traditions of multiculturalism and today multiculturalism has turned into a state policy. He noted that the Azerbaijani people is peace-loving, and many minorities live under friendly conditions in our country.

Recalling the world known Azerbaijani poet Mohammad Fizuli, the speaker quoted this universal thinker’s address to Allah. M.Fizuli wrote, “Give me a chance to suffer the sorrow of all the people in the world.” These are the words of an Azerbaijani poet with multicultural mind.

In his speech the Charge d’Affaires of the USA to Azerbaijan William Gill emphasized that Azerbaijan is a country where a number of ethnic minorities live an independent life. There are ethnic groups in the USA as well, yet they have arrived as migrants. William Gill, who found the study of multicultural values in Azerbaijan useful for the young people of foreign countries, pointed out multiculturalism as a value bringing people together.

Further, the participants of the Summer School including the Portuguese Joao Mestre, Indonesian Imas Fuciate, Palestinian Farah Erekat shared their impressions, stated that the multicultural values in Azerbaijan are an example for our present-day world.

The Head of the District Executive Power Mirdamad Sadigov pointed out that in Ismayilli populated by more than 10 nationalities the people co-exist under friendly conditions and in mutual respect.

In the end the participants of the Summer School visited the village of Ivanovka resided by the Malakans and listened to the performances of the folklore groups.
