SUMMER AND WINTER SCHOOL PARTICIPANTS PROMOTE AZERBAIJAN ABROAD
The XIII International Winter School of Multiculturalism starts today. Participants of the Winter schools will spend a week in Baku, Guba, Khachmaz and Gusar regions.
Scientists, teachers and youth from 20 countries of the world take part in this one week event. There are also Azerbaijani students among the participants of the Winter School. It is important to note, that XIII Winter school is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the national leader Heydar Aliyev and "Unity in cultural diversity on the example of Azerbaijan" will be one of the main topics as well.
The executive director of the Baku International Center for Multiculturalism (IBMC) Ravan Hasanov stressed that the Winter School is held by the Center for the 13th time and is a permanent, long term project. The reason for this is the serious interest in the project. "We teach the subject "Azerbaijani multiculturalism" in 26 universities around the world. Students learn Azerbaijani language and culture,” said the executive director of the BICM.
"Students studying the subject "Azerbaijani multiculturalism" in foreign universities are then able to visit the capital and regions of Azerbaijan, within the Winter/Summer School project. They get acquainted in practice with traditions of tolerance and multiculturalism in our country. As a result, these students become "ambassadors" of Azerbaijan in the countries they came from. Further the IBMC stays in close communication with "ambassadors".
The Summer and Winter Schools receive over 500,000 applications each year; only about 50 students are selected as participants.
The participants of the Summer and Winter Schools are closely connected with Azerbaijan today. They become
propagandists of Azerbaijan in foreign countries.
