Ravan Hasanov: The Udis are considered to be descendants of Caucasian Albania

Gabala, October 11

Holding an international conference on Caucasian Albania in the Albanian-Udi centre in the Nij village of the Gabala region is of particular importance. Since it is the Udis who are considered to be descendants of Caucasian Albania.

This was said by the Director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Centre (BIMC) Ravan Hasanov in an interview with reporters at the international conference “Caucasian Albania in a Historical and Contemporary Context" held in the Nij village.

Having stated that along with Azerbaijani scholars, the conference was also attended by historians from Italy, France, Georgia, Lithuania, and the Russian Federation, the BIMC Director said that at the event, scientific reports on the study of the cultural heritage of Caucasian Albania in ethnographic, historical and archaeological aspects were heard.

Ravan Hasanov said: “The BIMC always keeps projects related to Caucasian Albania in the spotlight. Prior to Nij, similar events were also held in foreign countries. Materials of such conferences are published by BICM in different languages and supplemented by methodological textbooks for teaching abroad. I think today's conference will also attract the attention of the local public. Because there are people, historians, and states trying to falsify historical facts related to Caucasian Albania. The attention of the Azerbaijan government to this problem and their concern are very important. The attention and interest of the world scientists to this issue should also be emphasized.”
