First, the National Anthem of Azerbaijan was played at the event. Then, the dear memory of the martyrs who died for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan was commemorated with a minute of silence. Later, a video about Memorial Day was shown.
Ravan Hasanov, executive director of Baku International Multiculturalism Center, who opened the event, noted that on September 27, 2020, in response to Armenia's next military aggression against Azerbaijan, our nation started the Patriotic War in order to liberate the occupied lands. The 44-day war ended with the great victory of Azerbaijan under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief President Ilham Aliyev. Our lands, which were under occupation for nearly 30 years, were liberated by the victorious Azerbaijani Army. By the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated December 2, 2020, September 27 - was established as Memorial Day in our country.
This year, Azerbaijani people celebrate the first Memorial Day. Today is also the day of restoration and protection of the historical memory of the united Azerbaijani nation, everyone who consider themselves Azerbaijani and is attached to this land from the heart.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Baku International Multiculturalism Center, Kamal Abdulla, delivered a speech and said that Armenians have carried out genocides against Azerbaijanis from time to time. Although the genocidal population was called Muslims under the common name, among them there were representatives of nationalities living in Azerbaijan - Lezgis, Avars, Tats, Kurds, and even non-Muslims.
Kamal Abdulla voiced another historical fact and noted that while Armenians were carrying out genocide against Azerbaijanis, they even killed Armenians who had a different opinion in order to implement their plans on a full scale.
Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations - Mubariz Gurbanli said in his speech that there was a huge difference between Azerbaijan and Armenia during the Patriotic War. Our Victory in this war was the confirmation of the political, economic, military and moral superiority of our country.
"Our greatest advantage in the Civil War was the national and moral solidarity of our people united around the President, Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. In battles, there was a big difference between the moral and psychological state of our soldiers and enemy’s, as our soldiers were fighting for their homeland and land, whereas the enemy was fighting in someone else's territory as an invader. From this point of view, our soldiers were morally and psychologically superior to the enemy," said Mubariz Gurbanli.
Melih Yevdayev, chairman of the Religious Community of Baku Mountain Jews, said that Armenians wanted to take this war to another level in the international world from the first day of the Patriotic War, which they started for the right cause of Azerbaijanis. But they could not achieve their wishes, because Azerbaijan is one of the few countries in the world that has created the harmony of national and religious unity.
Speaking at the event, the representatives of ethnic communities and confessions pointed out that Azerbaijan is the homeland of every citizen, regardless of their national identity and religious affiliation.
For thousands of years, representatives of different nationalities and religions lived in this country as friends and brothers and protected Azerbaijan as their common homeland. Therefore, in the Patriotic War, which began on September 27, 2020 and lasted for 44 days, representatives of all nationalities and religions living in Azerbaijan voluntarily joined the army, participated heroically in battles, and some of them were either martyred or became a veteran.
In their speeches, the members of the families of the martyrs talked about the patriotism of their relatives, their heroism and valor in the battles, and said that they are proud of their children and family members who rose to the status of martyrs.
In the end, an appeal to President Ilham Aliyev was accepted on behalf of the leaders of ethnic communities and confessions living in Azerbaijan.
