An excursion to the Guba region was organized for participants of the XVI International School of Multiculturalism
An excursion to the Guba region was organized for the participants of the XVI International School of Multiculturalism named “Diversity and Equality: Building an Inclusive Future” organized by the Baku International Multiculturalism Center. The participants were acquainted with the Red Settlement. They were informed that the Red Settlement, located on the northern banks of the Gudyalchay River in the Guba region, is a uncommon settlement. This village, distinguished by its red-tiled roofs, is one of the less places in the world where Jews live compactly. The residents of this settlement are Mountain Jews, who have lived in Guba for centuries.
The participants also visited the Museum of Mountain Jews in the Red settlement. It was noted that the museum, located in the 19th-century Karjog synagogue, is the first and sole museum in the world dedicated to Mountain Jews.
Later the students visited the "Gilaki" synagogue.
