AZERBAIJAN DELEGATION PARTICIPATES IN THE G20 INTERFAITH DIALOGUE FORUM

The G20 Interfaith Dialogue Forum is being held in Cape Town, South Africa, from August 10 to 14. The Forum, dedicated to the topic “Humanism in Action: Vulnerable Communities in the spotlight,” is being attended by an Azerbaijani delegation led by Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazadeh, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office. The delegation includes Ravan Hasanov, Executive Director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Center, Ramin Gambarov, Deputy Executive Director of the Center, and Members of the Milli Majlis Fazil Mustafa and Javanshir Pashazade.
Forumun açılışında çıxış edən Qafqaz Müsəlmanları İdarəsinin sədri Şeyxülislam Allahşükür Paşazadə bəşəriyyətin sülh, tolerantlıq və qarşılıqlı hörmət dəyərlərinə hər zamankından daha çox ehtiyac duyduğunu vurğulayıb. O, dünyada münaqişələrin, dini və etnik zəmində ayrı-seçkiliyin artmasının qlobal sabitliyə ciddi təhdid yaratdığını qeyd edərək, beynəlxalq ictimaiyyəti dini liderlər və ictimai xadimlərlə əməkdaşlıqda fəal olmağa çağırıb.
Ravan Hasanov, Executive Director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Center, made a speech at the forum's panel session dedicated to the topic "Education for Solidarity: Intercultural Religious Literacy, Humanism and Combating Religious Tension and Violence." He expressed his thoughts on the topic, talked about Azerbaijan's experience on the topic and the activities of the Baku International Multiculturalism Center related to education and youth. He noted that education, along with knowledge, is also a value, and plays an important role in shaping societies, building bridges between people of different religions and cultures, preserving social unity, and promoting mutual respect.
Ravan Hasanov emphasized that in Azerbaijan, where different religious and ethnic communities live together, multiculturalism is the moral wealth of the people, as well as one of the priorities of state policy, and this begins with education. Azerbaijan's experience shows that education based on intercultural and interreligious enlightenment can considerably strengthen social harmony. The activities of the Baku International Center for Multiculturalism in this area should be specially noted. The center has developed educational programs that promote values such as tolerance and coexistence both within the country and abroad. The subjects "Azerbaijani Multiculturalism" are taught in more than 27 universities around the world, and "Introduction to Multiculturalism" in all universities in Azerbaijan. The students explore real-life models of coexistence and discuss the role of religion and tradition in the formation of inclusive societies through this program. The center organizes International Multiculturalism Summer and Winter Schools twice a year, and the Multiculturalism Youth Forum is held.

He noted that all religious communities in Azerbaijan - Muslim, Christian, Jewish and others - also contribute to educational and cultural dialogue. They organize camps, seminars and projects for young people.
Ravan Hasanov finally stated that Azerbaijan's continued participation in such prestigious international platforms makes a significant contribution to further strengthening the country's global reputation in the field of multiculturalism, as well as promoting dialogue between different religions and cultures. The Baku International Multiculturalism Center aims to continue its active participation in such international events in the future, to present the Azerbaijani multiculturalism model to international audiences, and to put forward new initiatives within the framework of cooperation with countries around the world.
The report was met with interest and questions on the topic were answered. The delegation met with Adama Dieng, Advisor to the Chairman of the Council of Muslim Elders (Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Special Advisor to the Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide in 2012-2020), Mohamed Elsanousi, Commissioner of the Commission on International Religious Freedom of the United States Department of State, Ibrahim Saleh Al-Naimi, Chairman of the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue, Ruslanbek Davletov, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Muzaffar Kamilov, Rector of the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan within the framework of the forum. During the meetings, the Azerbaijani delegation exchanged views with international partners on the development of interfaith and intercultural dialogue, promotion of religious tolerance and mutual respect, combating radicalism and extremism, protection of vulnerable communities, preservation of Islamic cultural heritage, as well as educational and scientific cooperation. The parties evaluated the possibilities of cooperation in these areas and agreed on joint projects and mechanisms of mutual support.
It should be noted that the G20 Interfaith Dialogue Forum is an influential interfaith global platform held on the eve of the G20 Summits and has been operating continuously for several years. The participation of the Baku International Multiculturalism Center in the Interfaith Dialogue Forum of the G20 Summit is of great importance in terms of establishing new relations, forming future projects, and continuing regular cooperation within the framework of the Forum.
