A BRIEFING WAS HELD ON THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ISLAMOPHOBIA
A briefing on the international conference "Islamophobia as a Specific Form of Racism and Discrimination: New Global and Transnational Challenges" dedicated to the International Day against Islamophobia was held on March 14.
Ravan Hasanov, Executive Director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Center provided detailed information about the conference at the breefing. He stated that the conference is being held jointly organized by the Baku International Center for Multiculturalism (BIMC), the Center for the Analysis of International Relations (CIAR), and the G20 Interfaith Dialogue Forum. The main goal of conference is to create an academic platform to discuss alarming trends targeting Muslims and Muslim-majority countries at the international and national levels. Scientists, experts from international organizations, religious figures, and representatives of non-governmental organizations from more than 30 countries will participate in this conference, also they will discuss different approaches to fighting Islamophobia, manifestations of Islamophobia in some European countries, and Islamophobia in the world media. Ravan Hasanov emphasized that Azerbaijan's hosting of the event is of special importance. Because Azerbaijan is a part of Islamic culture. The increase in cases of Islamophobia in the world worries Azerbaijan as well.
Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Board of the Center for the Analysis of International Relations, noted that Azerbaijan has also felt the effects of Islamophobia. We have observed a biased attitude towards Azerbaijan in the Western media for 30 years. It has several reasons. One of the reasons is Islamophobia. Baku has already become an international platform, regularly organizing scientific and practical conferences. The international conference "Islamophobia as a Specific Form of Racism and Discrimination: New Global and Transnational Challenges" to be held in Baku on March 15-16 will also be an academic platform to discuss the alarming trends regarding Islamophobia.

It should be noted that, The International Day to Fight Islamophobia was first declared on 15 March at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Niamey, Niger, on 27-28 November 2020. The United Nations General Assembly adopted March 15 as the International Day for Fighting Islamophobia in 2022.
