A DELEGATION OF THE ISLAMIC ORGANIZATION OF INDONESIA VISITED THE MULTICULTURALISM CENTER

A delegation of the Indonesian Islamic Organization "Nahdlatul Ulama" visited the Baku International Multiculturalism Center (BİMC). 
Ravan Hasanov, Executive Director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Center gave a broad information about the center's activities, spoke about the multicultural and tolerant environment in Azerbaijan, the multiculturalism policy implemented by President Ilham Aliyev, as well as the Azerbaijani multiculturalism model. He stated that multicultural values have been extremely important in Azerbaijan for centuries, where representatives of different peoples and cultures live without any discrimination. He emphasized that our country endeavors to establish mutual understanding and feelings of solidarity among representatives of different religions around the world and is an example from this point of view. He stated that interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Indonesia have been established at a high level. Organizations also contribute to the development of these relations. Ravan Hasanov reported that the subject "Azerbaijani Multiculturalism" is taught at prestigious world universities. Among these universities is Gadjah Mada University in Indonesia. Indonesian students take part in the International Multiculturalism Summer and Winter Schools organized by the Baku International Multiculturalism Center.
The Executive Director also gave information about our lands liberated from occupation. He brought to attention that during the 30-year occupation, Armenians destroyed, burned, and rendered harmless 64 out of 65 mosques located in Karabakh. Ravan Hasanov stated that today Karabakh is being rebuilt. But, Armenian obstacles are becoming apparent in this process. Thus, during the occupation, 1 million 500 thousand mines were planted by Armenia in our lands and Armenia refuses to provide a map of the mined areas. More than 2 years have passed since the liberation of our lands from occupation, and during this period, 250 Azerbaijani civilians have died as a result of mine explosion.
Ravan Hasanov emphasized that cooperation between our organizations should be further expanded in the interests of our states and peoples.
The head of the Nahdlatul Ulama delegation, Zulfa Mustafa, gave information about their organization. She said that the goal of Nahdlatul Ulama is to contribute to the restoration of peace in the world. At the same time, tolerance and multiculturalism are also included in the organization's mission. She noted that the purpose of the visit to Azerbaijan is to exchange experience and knowledge between our countries in the field of Islamic studies, especially on tolerance, diversity and multiculturalism. Finally, the guests were presented with gifts and a commemorative photo was taken.
