Participants of 10th International Winter School of Multiculturalism informed about tolerance in Azerbaijan
Baku, 20 February
People of all religions enjoy a comfortable life in Azerbaijan. A multicultural environment has historically existed here. Tolerance is a lifestyle for the Azerbaijani people. People of different religions visit the places of worship and share pleasant times during religious holidays.
It was stated at the meeting held with the participants of the 10th International Winter School of Multiculturalism at the Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO).
First Deputy Chairman of CMO Salman Musayev, his deputies Fuad Nurullayev, Gamarkhanim Javadli and CMO Chief of Staff Simran Hasanli informed the guests about the traditions of multiculturalism, interfaith tolerance and harmony existing in Azerbaijan. It was noted that Azerbaijan is one of the few countries where is no sectarian discrimination. The call to prayer is delivered at all mosques at the same time and a unity prayer is performed. We have a law “On a Freedom of Faith” in Azerbaijan. Freedom of faith for everyone is protected by the state. At a time of crisis in interfaith relations and increasing Islamophobia and anti-Semitism cases, our state attaches special importance to restoration and construction of various religious shrines of special historical and spiritual significance. The state cares about all religious communities regardless of their religious affiliation.
Later they answered the questions of the Winter School participants.
