The Meeting with the Ambassador of Ukraine at Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism
Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism has hosted a meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to Azerbaijan Aleksandr Mishenko.
At the meeting the Acting Executive Director of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism Ravan Hasanov gave thorough information to the Ambassador on the activities of the Centre and the multicultural environment successfully continued in our country.
Ravan Hasanov stated that President Ilham Aliyev attaches great importance to the maintenance of multiculturalism. The present level of the environment of tolerance in Azerbaijan is the outcome of the policy pursued by the Head of our state, his equal attitude to each of our citizens irrespective of their religion, language and national identity. Multiculturalism is the state policy, lifestyle in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is an example to the world for its multicultural and tolerant lifestyle. He pointed out that the policy of tolerance pursued by the state of Azerbaijan lays foundations for the further consolidation of friendship and fraternity among the ethnic and religious communities dwelling in our country. All this is the result of the successful continuation of the policy founded by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
The Acting Executive Director of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism also spoke of the activities of the institution he is representing. He pointed out that the Centre is mainly aimed to provide the maintenance of tolerance and cultural, religious, linguistic diversity in accordance with the ideology of Azerbaijanianism as well as present Azerbaijan as the centre of multiculturalism in the world and study and advocate the existing multicultural models. The Ambassador was told that today the course “Azerbaijani Multiculturalism” is being taught at about twenty foreign universities in the world. Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism has affiliates in eight countries, and the ninth one is to be opened in Washington D.C. soon.
The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to Azerbaijan Aleksandr Mishenko expressed his pleasure of working in a multinational, multicultural and tolerant country like Azerbaijan. He emphasized the worthiness of close cooperation and friendship among different religious communities in Azerbaijan. He stated that with its example Azerbaijan encourages other countries, and it is necessary to make use of its experience. The Ambassador also stated his suggestions on the appropriateness of opening an affiliate of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism in the country he represents as well as teaching the course “Azerbaijani Multiculturalism” at the Ukrainian Universities.
The meeting was also attended by the Consultant of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism Aytan Gahraman and the Head of the Ukrainian Congress in Azerbaijan Yuriy Osadchenko.
In the end the guests were given the presents of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism.
