Winter school participants were informed about religious diversity in Azerbaijan

On February 17, participants of the 10th International Multiculturalism Winter School, organized by Baku International Multicultural Center (BIMC) listened to the lecture on "religious diversity in Azerbaijan".

The lecture given by Ali Haziyev, the head of the International Relations Department of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations, noted that national, religious and human values ​​have always been attached great importance in Azerbaijan. He noted that Azerbaijan, where various religions and nations have been living in mutual understanding since ancient times, has always been known for its tolerance towards others. That is why in our country the respect for religious and spiritual heritage, dialogue of different cultures, traditions of tolerance are always protected and developed at the highest level. After restoring its independence, national and religious tolerance is supported at the state level and great importance is attached to its development. The basis of relationship between state and religion in Azerbaijan was laid by the nationwide leader of our people Heydar Aliyev and is successfully continued and developed by President Ilham Aliyev.

Azerbaijan, where the majority of the population is Muslim and where religious conflicts, including anti-Semitism have not happened, constantly hosts events that contribute to the development of inter-religious dialogue.

International Multiculturalism Summer and Winter Schools Project is a logical continuation of “Teaching Azerbaijani multiculturalism at foreign and local universities” Project. The purpose of the winter and summer schools organized for students studying Azerbaijani multiculturalism at 21 foreign and 38 Azerbaijani prestigious higher education institutions under the educational project is to enable those young people to see and witness with their own eyes what they have learned theoretically, in our country where the values of multiculturalism and tolerance are preserved.

25 students from the leading universities of countries such as Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Colombia, Croatia, India, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Montenegro, Moldova, Nigeria, Portugal, Russia, Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, Turkey, USA and Brazil attend the 10th International Multiculturalism Winter School, which will last until February 22.
