On September 2-3, 2020, an international conference on the theme of “Heritage and culture of the Jews of the Northern and Eastern Caucasus and the South Caucasus” will be held in Baku.

ANNOUNCEMENT

On September 2-3, 2020, an international conference on the theme of “Heritage and culture of the Jews of the Northern and Eastern Caucasus and the South Caucasus” will be held in Baku.

The conference will be jointly organized by Baku International Multiculturalism Center, Azerbaijan University of Languages, Azerbaijan Institute of Theology, Israeli Bar-Ilan University’s Aharon and Rachel Dahan Center for the Study of Culture, Education and Heritage of Spanish and Oriental Jewish Communities, as well as Ashkelon Academic College.

Researchers wishing to participate in the conference are recommended to prepare speeches on the following topics:  

  • Community and family
  • Inter-community relations
  • Socio-economic status
  • Literature, artistic creativity and theater
  • Manuscripts and theology
  • National and ethnic identity 
  • Juhuri language, its status and related studies
  • Jewish languages and local dialects
  • Multiculturalism
  • Gender studies
  • Zionist movement and aliya (repatriation to Israel)
  • World War II and the tragedy of the Jewish people
  • Geographical locations of Judaism

The academic commission of the conference will also consider applications on other related topics.

Researchers wishing to participate in the conference need to submit an application in this connection. The application must include the talking points of the speech (250 words) and a short CV of the participant. The participant’s email address must be indicated in the application.   

Applications must be submitted before February 3, 2020. Please send your applications to the Dahan Center of Bar-Ilan University at dahan.center@biu.ac.il.

 The conference materials will be published as a special compilation based on the peer review results.

The event will be conducted in the English, Russian and Hebrew languages.
