The Celebration of the National Salvation Day at Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism

Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism has held a celebration of the 15th of June – the Day of National Salvation.

Speaking at the event, the Acting Executive Director of the BICM Ravan Hasanov pointed out the great socio-political and historical importance of the National Salvation Day. He stated that the 15th of June is the real day of salvation for the people who love their Motherland, their people, who have suffered the horrors of those difficult, painful days and eye-witnessed the developments. And the creator of this history is the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, who has had an exceptional role in Azerbaijan’s development, independence and future, and always relied upon his people. He mentioned that today the Azerbaijani people is advancing resolutely along the path opened to our happy future by the unforgettable leader. The modern independent Azerbaijan is advancing, developing confidently along the strategic line owing to the successful strategy founded by our National Leader.

Further, the Head of the Department of Interethnic Relations, Multiculturalism and Religious Issues of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Professor Etibar Najafov spoke of the significance of the 15th of June – the Day of National Salvation which entered our history of statehood as an honorable page. He stated that with the return of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev to power Azerbaijan entered a new stage. As a result of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s wise, farsighted policy, the tense socio-political crisis in our country was eliminated; stability and economic development were provided. Etibar Najafov said that this year Azerbaijan has been celebrating some events of great significance – the National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s 95th Jubilee and the 100th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of Azerbaijan at high level and stated that on the 15th of June we are going to celebrate the National Salvation Day, one of the glorious dates in Azerbaijani history. He also emphasized that these three events are interconnected. The People’s Republic of Azerbaijan was the first democratic Parliamentary Republic in the Muslim East, an example of a legal and secular state. In that period the brightest page of our history was written, great achievements were gained. The establishment of democratic rights and freedoms, the recognition of equal rights of all the citizens regardless of their ethnic and religious identity, the enfranchising of women even earlier than many European countries and other issues of this kind visually characterize the scale, essence and insight of the policy pursued by the government of the People’s Republic. However, due to objective reasons the independence of the People’s Republic of Azerbaijan did not last long. By accepting the people’s insistent invitation and returning to the capital on the difficult day of the country, Azerbaijan’s outstanding son, great patriot Heydar Aliyev smashed all the plans of our internal and external enemies. By endangering his own life this great personality, who took the mission of a rescuer on himself, arrived in Baku on 9 June 1993. On 15 June 1993 the National Leader Heydar Aliyev was elected the Chair of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and that date entered our history as the National Salvation Day.

Further, the Leader of the European Jews’ Baku Religious Community Alexandr Sharovskiy, Deputy Chair of the Caucasian Muslims Office Fuad Nurullayev, the Leader of Baku City Mountain Jews’ Religious Community Milikh Yevdayev, the Deputy Chair of the State Committee for the Work with Religious Organizations Gunduz Ismayilov, the Deputy Bishop of Baku and the Caspian – the representative of the Orthodox Religious Organization of Baku and the Caspian Eparchy of the Russian Orthodox Church Elnur Afandiyev, the representative of the Avar Azerbaijan Non-governmental Organization Mahammad Nooyev, the Representative of the Georgian Jews’ Community Moisey Bekker spoke of different periods of the life and activities of Heydar Aliyev, the outstanding state figure of our time. It was stated that today the triumph of the ideology of the national salvation manifests itself in the continuous development of our independent republic; the reputation of Azerbaijan in the world is increasing further. Following the National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s return to power the socio-economic and political development in our country has played a decisive role in the consolidation of our state, its close involvement in the integration process to the world and the establishment of modern society meeting the interests of our people.
